Yes Man ****

I'm not a huge fan of Jim Carrey, so putting this one in... I was a little less than excited.

That changed! It turned out to be one that I really like!

The thing that I liked most about the movie was not the acting, story or even the sure to be present stupid Carrey-type comedy. It was the concept of the movie that I liked.

Carrey is a guy who is invited to a crazy seminar resembling a televangelist meeting. The seminar encourages everyone to say 'yes' to life. If you're not saying 'yes' to opportunity, then you're not living, so you're dead!! The main character is sort of forced to take this to heart and Carrey takes this as 'yes' to everything and you can imagine the crazy things he gets into, including a Persian wife, a new homeless friend, and of course a new girl. But at the end, he realizes that he should say 'no' if he doesn't want to do something. (I think I would have gotten this a lot sooner, but it would've been a boring movie!)

About mid-way through, I realized that there was a much bigger message in this movie than it would have you believe. We have all become so accustomed to saying 'no'! We have caller id so we say no to calls we sometimes shouldn't. We say no online with the click of a little box. We are all so accustomed to saying 'no'! Are we sliding into the boring 'non-life' of this character?

AND, this one really is PG-13... probably even ok for most younger kids.

I must admit that 'Yes Man' really did strike a chord with me and I'm going to try to say 'yes' more!! (unless I don't want to!)
