Slumdog Millionaire *****

Finally, a movie I can get excited about!!

There isn't even anything 'wrong' with 'Slumdog Millionaire' for me to point out!!!

Ok, so I may be the only person in the world that didn't see this at theaters. But, as is my normal custom, I waited for the dvd release. This time, I'm actually a little sorry I waited! (that never happens!)

In 'Slumdog Millionaire', the story at the forefront is Jamal's big win on the game show 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire'. He is immediately accused of cheating. As Jamal recounts all of the 'whys' as to 'why he knew each answer', we are included on his entire life story up to the present. I love the way they did this!! It's not just story-telling, but layered story-telling, and brilliantly done!!

The thing that enriches the plot even more, is that it's in India. (Do they really have the gameshow there?) It being in India brings another element to the story. An important one. Jamal's recanting of his impoverished and traumatic life there succeeds in making us love him more than we probably would had he been from anywhere else. I felt Jamal's desperation; his feeling of having essentially nothing and nowhere to go. I felt his helplessness as he tried and tried to help the girl he loved. And most importantly, I felt his joy whenever anything worked out for him.

Also, in wonderful Bollywood fashion, there was a great whole cast dance scene during the ending credits. (Although this isn't really a 'Bollywood' film, I'm glad they threw that in. Makes for even more of a happy ending!!)

Also, I think most teenagers who have ever played a video game would be fine to watch this. There is a good bit of violence, but no nudity except for a kid's behind. There are also several references to prostitution and sexuality, but it's not a huge factor.
It's totally ok for my mature 15 year old daughter.

All in all, 'Slumdog Millionaire' really is an exceptional film from beginning to end that delivers everything you want in a wonderful movie experience.

It will be a classic!

SO, this time I'm telling you to go ahead and buy it below. You will sooner or later!
