Ok, so I was kind of excited about 'Dark Matter'. A film about dark matter, cosmology and all of that stuff. I find it all very intriguing, even though I'm eventually lost in the theory.
The movie is about a young Chinese graduate student that comes to the US to follow his dream of studying dark matter and winning the Nobel Prize. All is well, until the professors become less than receptive to his ideas. When he doesn't pass his doctoral dissertation, he goes off the deep end. What a drag! He had so much promise!
Meryl Streep plays a nice supporting role as a wealthy benefactor/friend.
There is a scene in a coffee shop where he is trying to have a love connection and ends up explaining God to the girl quite beautifully. (I got excited for a minute.) The universe, like God, has no beginning and no end. So maybe our idea of God as an old man with a beard can be changed to universe is God! Dark matter is God??? Maybe the perception we have of the old man is just one that we have always been able to relate to since we've always had fathers!
The proposition of discussing God as universe was short lived, however, and we just went down a sad path with a lonely Chinese boy.
Not a great movie...
It's fine for the kids, except for the shootings, but they would be really bored otherwise!
