A Serious Man ***

'A Serious Man' is one of those Coen brothers movies. Ever since 'Raising Arizona', I get really excited about their movies in the hopes of laughing that much again. Well, once again, this wasn't it. True they've done some good ones, but, in my opinion, only one great!

'A Serious Man' is basically about just that.... a serious man. His life is boring and quickly going down the drain. They also play with the idea of generational curses, but then don't really tie it in well. There is a medieval scene at the beginning but then it's not referred to again.

All in all, it was pretty good. There were a few good laughs, and it was slightly interesting. There were appearances by a myriad of familiar actors including Adam Arkin who is one of my favorites. But once again, I'm left puzzled after a Coen movie... I think that's their primary goal, usually. They took a pretty uninteresting and bland story, and somehow did it 'well.' They made it look good, and they made you think a little. Hmmm....

Personally, I'm going to keep hoping for the return of the wickedly stupid type humor of 'Raising Arizona'.

The kids should just skip this one. There's some nudity and teenage situations that you don't want to be your teenager's situation. But for the grown-ups, it's interesting.
