'Five Minutes of Heaven' stars Liam Neeson.
It takes place in Ireland in the '70s, around much political unrest. The entire movie is about one brother's quest for vengeance on his brother's killer.
The five minutes?? when they slug it out at the end!
I'm a strong proponent of historical dramas to help us remember the things from our past, But this one is really only teaching revenge with an Irish accent.
Sorry, can't recommend for anybody!

Up In the Air ***1/2
'Up in the Air' stars George Clooney and Vera Farmiga. Critics didn't love it. I wasn't excited.
But it was better than I expected! It basically is a story about the lifestyles of people who travel constantly. Having a friend who has lived this, made the movie a little re-assuring to me. "It really IS messed up! It's not just me!" This life has become a part of our culture, and 'Up in the Air' portrays several of the different angles in which it is disfunctional... and perhaps liberating.
Not really obscene for the kids, but the casualty of sex is kind of obscene.
But a pretty good watch!

Bollywood Hero **
'Bollywood Hero' stars Chris Kattan as himself. Is it really his story??? surely not. When he can't get work in Hollywood, he goes to Bollywood. This has all the makings of something that could be hysterical. It wasn't.
Skip it.

Young Victoria ***1/2
'Young Victoria' is a biopic of the early life of Queen Victoria, starring Emily Blunt. It was very well done, and the historian here still learned a little. One aspect of the story that I enjoyed was actually seeing the love between Victoria and Prince Albert. I had always heard of this great love, but seeing it portrayed made it even more touching.
'Young Victoria' was a really nice watch, and I'd love for them to continue and do a series through her life!
Totally fine for the kids, and educational too!!

Peacock ***
'Peacock' is a strange little movie dealing with multiple personality disorder. It's a weird but interesting story that will probably have you hooked as soon as you realize what's going on. (The only big name in it was Ellen Page, who does not have the starring role.)
'Peacock' would be fine for the kids, but probably much too weird. I would steer the little ones away.
But otherwise, a pretty interesting watch!

The Lovely Bones ***1/2
'The Lovely Bones' is based on a best selling book. And I could tell. I felt the entire time as if I was probably missing a lot of details.
It's about a teenage girl who is killed and then helps her family to find her killer from the great beyond. It was well done and an interesting story. Although I do have issues with the basic premise of the story, it was still a good watch.
It would be ok for most older kids to watch, although the subject matter is probably too much for the younger ones.

Everybody's Fine **1/2
'Everybody's Fine' stars Robert DeNiro, Kate Beckinsale, and Drew Barrymore. Yeah, I know, they're all great!!!
But 'Everybody's Fine' wasn't that great. It's about an estranged Dad who has to go on a cross country trek to check on his children. His wife had always corresponded, and since her death, he wants to be more involved. His kids, of course, don't want to tell him anything. They want to continue keeping him in the dark as Mom had done. And as it turns out.... nobody's really fine.
'Everybody's Fine' was pretty disappointing to me since there were so many really good actors in it! It was just sad!!!
Kids can watch it, but won't want to.

Oh Matthew Broderick... I'm still waiting for another great movie out of you!!!

Serious Moonlight ***
'Serious Moonlight' stars Meg Ryan and Timothy Hutton. It didn't get great reviews, but I figured.... 'it's got Meg Ryan! She's so cute!!'
Well, 'Serious Moonlight' is about a wife who comes home to find her husband leaving her for another woman. She decides that she won't let him leave.... that is, she duct tapes him to the toilet until he comes to his senses. There are several interesting twists and turns (one involving an appearance by Justin Long) that take their relationship to another level, so to speak.
'Serious Moonlight' evokes thoughts of relationships, how they evolve, and the crazy things we do to keep them. It's an interesting movie, and well done. Parts of it are pretty crazy which may be why critics weren't on board, but all in all I found it interesting.
Your kids could probably watch it, but would not be interested. Also, they might not need the extra 'force'. They get enough of that in video games!

Pirate Radio ***1/2
'Pirate Radio' stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson as supporting cast. There are also many other recognizable faces in there.
I wasn't very excited about this movie, but I was kind of excited about the story. I had no idea that the English had to pirate rock and roll music from off-shore ships until 1967!!!
Most of the movie portrays the everyday life of these guys who live on the ship. It's a little uneventful and wasn't the easiest for me to pay attention to. However, toward the end of the movie, the plot thickens and you learn of the heroic end of pirate radio.
I think you should watch this if for no other reason but to appreciate freedom and rock and roll!! It's an important story to be remembered!
As for the kids, they'll be bored, but you probably wouldn't want them to know about the boat loads of women who come to visit!

The Slammin' Salmon ***
'The Slammin' Salmon' is another ridiculous installment from the Broken Lizard people.
I wasn't too excited about this one, but I did get a lot of good, wicked laughs. The premise is that the crazy ex-boxer owner of the restaurant is offering a reward for the highest volume wait staff. The lowest is promised to get beaten by the big scary boxer. The hi-jinx ensue and they're all hysterical to sell the most.
'The Slammin' Salmon' probably won't go down as a great comedy, but it's definitely good for a few laughs.
As for the kids, some of the humor is a little raunchy and I'd just skip it. Just watch this one alone, or pre-screen.

Four Christmases ***1/2
'Four Christmases' stars Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn as they go to all four of their parents' for Christmas when their flight to Fiji is cancelled.
(Yes, it's April and Netflix is just now getting this to me!)
'Four Christmases' is really about relationships and the way we all deal with the crazy aspects of our families and each other. It was well done with lots of really good laughs to boot!
A good watch for the family!

2012 ***1/2
'2012' is one of those apocalyptic movies. This one is regarding the Mayan prophecies of 2012. I generally dislike these types of movies because of the fear they instill. This one also did not rate very well.... But it does star John Cusack, so I had to watch it.
'2012' turned out to be much better than I expected. The story was put together really well in all aspects. The role played by Woody Harrelson really made the movie for me too. He's plays such a good screwball!!! (And I've been on a roll with his movies lately!) In '2012', an ordinary guy figures out what is going on, and scrambles to save his family, getting them to the ships whose seats sold for $1billion. And yes, everyone else dies!
So, '2012' was better than expected and a good watch!

Zombieland ***3/4
'Zombieland' stars Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg. It's billed as a horror movie, but is much more comedy. If I hadn't noticed Woody Harrelson, I wouldn't have even gotten it... since I hate horror movies.
'Zombieland' was good for several really good laughs as a team of four loners join up traveling around killing zombies and looking for more non-zombies. Lots of funny moments, including a trip to Bill Murray's mansion in Beverly Hills.
Depending on your kid, you may want to skip this one. Although basically it would be ok on most levels, there is a lot of blood and guts throughout. So you may want to pre-screen.
So, if you're not squeamish, 'Zombieland' is hysterical!

Coco Before Chanel ****
'Coco Before Chanel' is another documentary about Coco Chanel. This, however, is French starring Audrey Tautou. It was very well done in all aspects.
The reason I'm talking about it is to give credit again to Coco Chanel for helping to liberate women! Her contribution to women is so often forgotten! If not for her, we may all still be wearing corsets and long skirts people!!! What a visionary she was and probably didn't even realize what a long-term difference she was making.
So, everyone go out and buy something Chanel and celebrate your pants!!!

Afghan Star ***3/4
'Afghan Star' is a documentary about the rise of pop culture in Afghanistan today. Apparently they have their own version of 'American Idol' called 'Afghan Star'. However, instead of fame and fortune, they get a little money and death threats.
The cause of Afghanistan is for some reason dear to me, in that I feel as an American that I have a responsibility to help them. If not for the US and USSR back in the '70s, the people of Afghanistan would have continued on their modernization route they were on with the rest of the world. However, thanks to us, they're back in the dark ages again; subjugating women and whoever else can be controlled. Sickening in our modern world.
So, yeah, I liked 'Afghan Star'! This is their first taste of democracy in many years (voting by SMS text). And if this needs to be their first step, then I am glad.

Ok, so I've been waiting to see the unrated version..... I still wasn't that impressed. After all of the hype of it being the funniest movie ever, I thought maybe I was missing something. Apparently not.
But yes, 'The Hangover' was really funny. The premise is a bachelor party where they accidentally take some 'ruffies'? and can't remember anything about their night, including where they left the bachelor. So, the movie consists of his three friends re-building the previous night to find the groom. Well done.
And no, don't let the kids see it.

I was strangely really excited about 'Where the Wild Things Are' because it was my favorite book as a child.

The Men Who Stare at Goats ****
I didn't know anything about 'The Men Who Stare At Goats' when I received it except that George Clooney and some other big names were in it (Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor).
It turns out that 'The Men Who Stare At Goats' is about the remote viewers who were a part of the CIA back in the '80s. Specifically, about some of them now, and a new adventure that one of them goes on with a young skeptical journalist.
The whole idea that the US government had anything so promising as to the spread of love, peace and joy, is quite encouraging. Even though the project was supposedly abandoned, the idea is strangely exciting.
It was a really nicely done story, with a beautiful ending. We all know how much I love those!
Ok for the kids, but they probably wouldn't be able to keep up or understand all of it.
A really interesting watch!

The Informant **1/2
'The Informant' stars Matt Damon as a corporate snitch for the FBI. It was a strange and interesting story. The most interesting thing about it was the internal psycho-babble that we heard. He would be doing something risky, and we get his strange ADD side thoughts.
I really didn't love 'The Informant'. It was strange and really not that interesting except for the random inner thoughts.
Not great, but ok for Matt Damon fans.

Love Happens ***
'Love Happens' stars Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart.
It took me a long time to get this one... I like both actors and was optimistic.
'Love Happens' was a nice story, but not one about love really. It was more about the process of grieving with a possibility of love at the end.
It was well done, and well acted! Not great, but good!
Brothers ***
'Brothers' is a war type drama starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman.
She's married to Maguire, thinks he died in Afghanistan, and develops a friendship with his brother. When not dead, her husband immediately thinks she had 'relations' with the brother.
'Brothers' was a nice story about the psychological effects of war.
It's ok for the kids, but more traumatic than you'd want small ones to bear.
A good watch!
The Twilight Saga: New Moon **
'New Moon' is the latest installment of 'The Twilight Saga'. It stars all of the same people from the first one, plus a few new characters.
Ok, so I made fun of this teenie-bopper stuff relentlessly until I watched the first one. It was actually pretty good, and made me think of 'Romeo and Juliet' a little.
In 'New Moon', however, I was very disappointed. It seemed like the bulk of the movie centered around heart break with loads of melodrama!
So, I really didn't like this one!
Broken Embraces ***
'Broken Embraces' is the latest from Pedro Almodovar to be released on dvd.
This one is not one of his typically 'weird' movies, but is more of just a story. I got the feeling that it was very autobiographical, although I don't think he's actually blind like the character.
The big plus in 'Broken Embraces' was Penelope Cruz! She delivers another amazing performance.
As for the kiddies, I would just have them skip all of Almodovar's movies until they're old enough to appreciate the intricacies. Also, none of his plots are really kid friendly!
'Broken Embraces' is not one of my favorites from Almodovar, but still a good watch.

'The Princess and the Frog' ***1/2
'The Princess and the Frog' is yet another Disney animated tale. It's the basic premise of the story that we all know, but with a few different variables introduced. It's another good one.
The reason I wanted to be sure to talk about 'The Princess and the Frog' is the animation. I'm not sure how much if any of it is computer generated. It appeared to be totally hand drawn. Either way, the two dimensional aspect is what took me back. It totally warmed my heart and made me feel like a kid again watching it. It feels like the animation of my childhood.
Another great draw to me, for 'The Princess and the Frog' was Randy Newman. I've just got to love a man who can write a really good song about Birmingham, Al!!! He has had such an amazing career, and he did some more awesome music here! Does anyone really realize what a gifted and integral part of movie making he has become? There is only one Randy Newman!
So, if for no other reason, watch 'The Princess and the Frog' for the animation and the music.
It was a nice treat.

Did You Hear About the Morgans? ***
'Did You Hear About the Morgans?' stars Hugh Grant and Sara Jessica Parker. It is billed as the couple on the verge of divorce who must enter witness protection.
Ok, so I wasn't that excited about this one, but once again, I was pleasantly surprised. 'Did You Hear about the Morgans?' is well done in just about every aspect. It is a good story that is well put together, and these two veteran actors easily do a great job.
And yes, there are several good laughs in there, and a heart warming ending. Everything I like.
'Did You Hear About the Morgans?' is really a nice watch and pretty safe for the whole family.

'Precious' ***
'Precious' stars Gabourey Sidibe and Mo'Nique, and others including Mariah Carey. This one got a lot of press, and yes it was good. Everything about it, including the acting, was very well done in all areas.
The problem that I had with it was the story itself. Precious has a horrific life. And yes, I know that horrific things really happen. But, I think I could have skipped this one. If I'd wanted to know about this stuff, I would be working for DHR and helping. It was so well done that it affected me. I've been wanted to kick Mo'Nique's ass ever since I watched it! So, she definitely did deserve the Academy Award!
I wouldn't let my kid watch this unless it was a threat! Make sure your kids skip this, and really I'd skip it too unless I wanted to be sad and upset!
A really well done, horrific tale:

The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day ****
'The Boondock Saints II' is definitely not your typical sequel and more than I expected. It stars all of the same guys from the first one in another really good 'shoot up the bad guys' flick. It was definitely a fun, interesting watch.
As for the kids, if you're ok with them watching shooting the bad guys, then I guess it's ok. Personally, I would steer at least the younger kids away from as much violence as possible.
But for the grown ups, especially the big boys, it was great fun!

The Time Traveler's Wife ***1/2
'The Time Traveler's Wife' stars Rachel McAdams and Erica Bana. It's a nice little story about, you guessed it, a lady married to a time traveler.
It would be a dull story, but the whole time travelling thing adds an interesting twist. The end kind of made me think about the infinity of love. There is even one good belly laugh in there involving the clothing he must find when he travels.
It's totally ok for the kids, I think. And a nice little chick flick.

The Penthouse **1/2
Ok, here's another one for which I didn't have very high expectations. It didn't get very good reviews, and has a lame premise -- guy wins a penthouse on a reality show. I expected some stupid humor and probably nudity.
Well, 'The Penthouse' did have some of the humor and nudity, but not that much.
I was really surprised to find an actual story in this one that had a happy ending!!!
So, not good for the kids, but not a terribly bad watch for you, surprisingly!

Gentlemen Broncos **
'Gentlemen Broncos' was perhaps the strangest movie I've ever seen.
It's about a group of kids who go to a writing seminar. They meet an idol, have work stolen, try to make a movie, and are vindicated in the end.
If you like 'weird', then you'll want to catch this one for sure!

Captain Abu Raed ****
Ok, so the best movie I've seen in ages came from Jordan?? And it's in Arabic??
It's pathetic that we put out so much crap here in the US, that a practically non existent movie industry in the middle east can make a better movie. So, my question is, who are the idiots paying for the crap to be made here???
'Captain Abu Raed' is a beautiful story which takes place in Amman, Jordan. The movie follows a group of people and their eventual interactions with one another. Abu Raed is an old neighborhood man who delights the children with stories. Then, he becomes a bigger part of their lives.
'Captain Abu Raed' is not politically motivated at all. It's just a nice story; one that will make you laugh and cry.
If your children will read a movie, then it's probably fine for them. It'll be one of those that will make them thankful for their sweet spoiled lives here.
'Captain Abu Raed' was surprisingly a really good watch! One you shouldn't miss!

The Private Lives of Pippa Lee ***
'The Private Lives of Pippa Lee' stars Robin Wright Penn and Alan Arkin. There are also some memorable performances by Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves.
So really, it seems to me, that nothing of Pippa's life is really private except for the same stuff rattling around in her head that is in most of ours. The title is a misnomer in that there is no great secret, or privacy here. It's really just a story. It's a pretty interesting story, but not great.
As for the kids, there's really not much that is blatantly unfriendly, except for one scene. There's one with Keanu Reeves that's kind of weird and you won't want to watch with the kids. So, they really wouldn't be that interested in this story, so just skip it for them, or at least pre-screen before you're embarrassed.
But for you, it's an ok, pretty entertaining watch!

All About Steve ***1/2
'All About Steve' stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. I'm a big fan of Sandy's, so I was really looking forward to this one. And again, she didn't let me down.
'All About Steve' is basically about a woman who stalks a blind date, thinking he's the one! The movie is very well put together and quite funny. There weren't that many great laughs, but lots of pretty good ones. Many chuckles... It does, however, have a nice moral lesson wrapped up in it which I love! It probably won't go down as a great movie, but definitely not bad.
Aside from a really quick make-out scene that's much funnier than provocative, this one is ok for the kids.
A good watch!

The Damned United ***1/2
'The Damned United' is based on the career of Brian Clough who was a British soccer manager.
Even though I don't care about soccer, I still enjoyed this story. It's based on part of Clough's career, in which he overcomes many obstacles.
It's well done and quite entertaining. I even became a 'football' fan for a few minutes.
It's also fine for the kids, if they're interested.
A good watch!

The Invention of Lying ***
'The Invention of Lying' stars Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner, with cameos by Tina Fey, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jason Bateman, to name a few.
The premise of the movie is that of an idealistic world where everyone tells the truth, all the time. They are not capable of lying. Here, the plot becomes a little interesting when the title character discovers that he can lie.
Then, there's a whole religious thing that they throw in. Apparently, they don't have God in this idealistic, truthful world. And he introduces Him. This became sort of strangely uncomfortable as they kind of poke fun at religion and spirituality. This part really bothered me and I'm sure would bother others.
Even though this is rated PG-13, I would probably try to keep even the teenagers away from it, only because of the very frank, truthful, discussions about sex.
All in all, it's an interesting movie; worth the watch if you have an open mind!

Motherhood **1/2
'Motherhood' stars Uma Thurman and several other recognizable faces including Minnie Driver.
The problem with 'Motherhood' is that it was billed as a comedy. Not a comedy! Yes, there are a few funny moments, but it is far from what I consider a 'comedy.'
It's more a dramedy. It's about that one horrible day in the life of a mother. They all have them, so they can all relate.
'Motherhood' is ok for the kids, but they probably wouldn't be that interested.
All in all, it's a pretty good movie with a few good laughs. I can see where women would relate to this and men would probably hate it.

Couples Retreat ***1/2
'Couples Retreat' stars Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman and several other big names and is directed by Peter Billingsley. I wasn't that excited about it, but it surprised me a little.
It's basically about four couples who go on a tropical retreat to help their various marriages. You get the different perspectives and issues that go along with being married. It makes you think on a lot of different levels about your own relationships. But then, it's a movie and I did find myself reminded that it was a little unrealistic.
Then, there were parts that were extremely unrealistic, but with a touch of truth. They encounter some funny situations, and the most extreme of those. There were lots of good laughs here. Definitely worth the time.
But, it's rated PG-13. That's a really mature 13 year old! You should definitely pre-screen.
A good watch! And watch the deleted and extended scenes here for sure. They make sense of the one thing that was inconsistent about the movie. And it's a hysterical scene I'm referring to!

A Serious Man ***
'A Serious Man' is one of those Coen brothers movies. Ever since 'Raising Arizona', I get really excited about their movies in the hopes of laughing that much again. Well, once again, this wasn't it. True they've done some good ones, but, in my opinion, only one great!
'A Serious Man' is basically about just that.... a serious man. His life is boring and quickly going down the drain. They also play with the idea of generational curses, but then don't really tie it in well. There is a medieval scene at the beginning but then it's not referred to again.
All in all, it was pretty good. There were a few good laughs, and it was slightly interesting. There were appearances by a myriad of familiar actors including Adam Arkin who is one of my favorites. But once again, I'm left puzzled after a Coen movie... I think that's their primary goal, usually. They took a pretty uninteresting and bland story, and somehow did it 'well.' They made it look good, and they made you think a little. Hmmm....
Personally, I'm going to keep hoping for the return of the wickedly stupid type humor of 'Raising Arizona'.
The kids should just skip this one. There's some nudity and teenage situations that you don't want to be your teenager's situation. But for the grown-ups, it's interesting.

Whip It ***1/2
'Whip It' stars Ellen Page, Drew Barrymore and many other faces you'll recognize. It's also Barrymore's directorial debut.
I like Drew Barrymore a lot. I'm sure she's done something bad in her 30+ year acting career, but I really haven't seen it. Sure, she's done things I could criticize, but nothing really all around 'bad'. And it seems that lately, she's all about the 'feel good' movies. I'm liking that, so I was excited to see what she could do as a director.
'Whip It' is about a girl who decides to play roller derby. Huh?? Roller derby?? People still do that?? Ok, so that bothered me a good bit, but for Drew, I was still excited. And amazingly, she pulled it off for me! I even got into the roller derby thing! And of course, there's a lovely family story with really a few good life lessons.
It's rated PG-13, and rated well I think. For younger kids, there's some bad language and some adult kind of themes, but for teenagers, I think it would be ok. It's entertaining and does present some good moral themes for the unruly pubescents.
A surprisingly good watch!

Moon **1/2
'Moon' stars Sam Rockwell. It looked kind of interesting from the description, and it got some attention at different Indie awards....
Well, it's about a man who has spent time working on a lunar space station and he's about to get to come home... until you find out about their evil plan!
'Moon' was pretty good, but I had a big problem with it. I felt extremely claustrophobic the entire time I was watching it. So, I guess in that sense, they did a very good job with realism. But it was very uncomfortable for me to watch. I couldn't wait for it to be over.
It's ok for the kids, but they could really skip it!

The Burning Plain ***
'The Burning Plain' stars Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger among others.
I really wasn't expecting to love this movie since the reviews were not great. Well, I didn't love it but I did like it.
It basically tells the story of a girl and all of the lives that she affects over the years. You don't really get this at first because it's fragmented. You are given different parts of the story at different times. It is not cohesive in any way. However, the non-cohesiveness of it makes it sort of amusing to put together. Well done.
This isn't one for the kids. Chances are they wouldn't even be able to pay attention for long enough to have a clue what it's about. There's also a good bit of nakedness here and there.

' A Perfect Getaway' **1/2
'A Perfect Getaway' stars Milla Jovovich and Steve Zahn.
This is a nice little suspense about a couple honeymooning in Hawaii with killers on the loose. It was pretty good except for one thing... There was no bait. In the end when you find out who the killers were, you're shown flashbacks that make it make sense at the end. But watching in real time, we got no clues?? There was almost no way of guessing. Where's the fun in that?
So, the story was a little lacking for me as far as tying everything together.
Good performances though, and it had promise...

(500) Days of Summer **1/2
'(500) Days of Summer' stars Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. This one has been nominated for some awards so I was a little excited to check it out.
Summer is the fickle love interest who manages to totally break Gordon-Levitt's heart in 500 days. It's really just a weird, sad little love story except for this one scene where he's totally in love and dances down the street with a crowd of people joining in and animated birds singing, all to an old Hall & Oates tune! That was really good... Otherwise, it was kind of a disappointing, sad story. But thank goodness, they did give us something upbeat at the end!
It's ok for the kids, but I really don't know if it's worth the watch for that one great scene?

'Extract' stars Jason Bateman (who I've loved since I was about 8), and Mila Kunis.
This was a weird one... It's about a guy that owns a company that makes extract flavoring. It's just a strange little story of what transpires for his crazy company and his sexless marriage.
There were a few belly laughs, which in my book makes this one worth the watch, despite that it wasn't that great overall.
I would just steer the kids away from this one altogether because it's just weird...
'Extract' had some good laughs though!

Maiden Heist ***
'Maiden Heist' is a lesser known new DVD release starring Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken and William Macy. It's about three museum security guards who cannot bear to part with their favorite works of art which are being traded to a Copenhagen museum.
'Maiden Heist' really had some great performances and several really good laughs. I felt like there was something missing though... like I needed a sub-plot to be thoroughly entertained??
A pretty safe one for the kids, although they may not be interested.
'Maiden Heist' was a good watch!

Inglorious Basterds ***1/2
'Inglorious Basterds' stars Brad Pitt and is directed by Quentin Tarantino. The movie was really entertaining and enjoyable to watch. However, I have put off writing about it for two weeks now because of some fundamental problems with it.
First off, who mis-spells a title on purpose?? Bastards!!! Are they implying a dual meaning or just being different? I don't really care... It just bothers me.
But the major thing that really really bothers me is that I keep foreseeing those stupid people on Jay Leno. They're on the street asking them basic knowledge questions. They all respond that Hitler was killed in a movie theater!! Not how it really happened, people!
The major problem is that it's so well done that there will be an entire generation of stupid people that think it's factual. Generally in fictional period pieces, the characters are just ordinary people; not Adolph Hitler. This bothers me a lot! Fiction with an infamous murderer as a character??
BUT, 'Inglorious Basterds' was very well done; story, acting, locations, effects... it was all good. I've never been able to say that Brad Pitt was Oscar-worthy. He's still not. He does a really good job, but just not great. There were also many other really good performances.
As for the kids, you should pre-screen. There was some freaky, unexpected violence that kind of disturbed me. It might be ok for mature teenagers, but you should watch it first.
Really good watch even though I had major issue with it!
