'Angels and Demons' is the latest installment from author Dan Brown, following 'The DaVinci Code'. This one also stars Tom Hanks and is directed by Ron Howard. Throw those two names in and it's bound to be good!
'Angels and Demons' is an interesting story as well, but puts a different spin of Catholic badness on things. The reason I only give this one three stars is my innate apprehension toward something like this. It tends to make people see only one side of a situation, or here, an institution. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big Catholic supporter. And yes, I too see the corruptions of the Catholic church. But it bothers me a little that this type of subject matter is presented through a fictional story... Yeah, I know I'm probably the only one.
'Angels and Demons' is of course well done and a really good watch, as well as OK for the kiddies!

Funny People *** 1/2
'Funny People' stars Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen. Immediately, you think, 'funny stupid movie... gotta be!' But warning: It's NOT!!! This movie is more of a dramedy and I think it would have done better had it been marketed that way. The problem with it is that you go in expecting one movie, but you get another one. Thus, it didn't really meet any one's expectations in the reviews because it was didn't deliver what was expected.
But after I got over the fact that there was a lot of drama to this one, it turned out to be pretty good. It's about major life situations of a couple of comedians. So you get some great jokes interspersed as related to their professions, but the main story line of the movie is NOT funny. It's serious stuff.
So anytime you do this sort of 'serious' but comical stuff, you're taking a lot of risks. It's not an easy thing to pull off well. But here, both Sandler and Rogen do an excellent job portraying their characters. The story is also very well done with none of those loose ends that I hate so much.
As for the kids, I would say no. There is a good bit of inappropriate humor and nudity.
But all in all, a really nice watch!

'Whatever Works *
'Whatever Works' is more philosophical ramblings from Woody Allen... stars Larry David.
I don't know, but these ramblings were only slightly amusing to me the first fifty times. And after my total loss of respect for Allen (after the daughter-wife incident), they are really annoying.
So, 'Whatever Works' is more annoying ramblings of Woody Allen.
