Yea! So I finally got a new dvd release worth talking about!!!
Yes, 'Bride Wars' is a chick flick. But a really entertaining chick flick!
It stars Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway. The latter we know is a very good actress since she was nominated for an Oscar last year. (However, I didn't even deem the movie, 'Rachel Getting Married' worth talking about. She was good, but the movie... not so much.) I'm a big Kate Hudson fan because I love her mom, Goldie Hawn. I loved Goldie as a child on 'LaughIn' and remember someone mentioning that she was very smart for playing the dumb blond. That was a unique idea to me and I've followed her 'smart' career ever since. Her daughter, Kate, however, skipped the 'dumb blond' thing and jumped right into a full fledged acting career. I think we'll see bigger and better things from her as she and her acting skills mature.
'Bride Wars' is about two young women who have been best friends their whole lives and dreamed about their weddings at the Plaza their whole lives. Until... they are mistakenly both booked for the same wedding day at the Plaza. When neither of them will agree to back down and have their wedding at a different location, the hi jinx ensues. The two best friends begin to play pretty ruthless tricks on one another until it culminates in a wedding tackle! They of course realize that they can't live without each other and at the last minute, one of them decides she can live without the guy she was about to marry!
The wonderful and oh so true message from 'Bride Wars' is that sometimes that one person that you share your whole life with might not be a husband, but instead a best friend. It made me appreciate my BFF that much more!! Love you!!
By the way, this one is safe for the kids... except they might pick up some pranks!
This will be a good one for your collection, so you can click below to order:

I Was A Male War Bride ****
Since I've been feeling deprived of good funny movies lately, I reverted back to one of my all-time favorites for a laugh recently.
"I Was A Male War Bride" is from 1949 starring Cary Grant and Ann Sheridan, and directed by Howard Hawks. It's about a French officer guy (Grant) who marries an American officer girl (Sheridan). When she is quickly being sent back to the States, the only way they could figure out how to get him back with her was the War Bride provision. As you might expect, some hilarity ensues here including Grant in drag! But what you might not expect is that there's hilarity throughout this one, even before the 'war bride' thing!
Cary Grant is one of my favorite actors in anything he ever did. And 'I Was A Male War Bride' is definitely one of my favorite of his' comedies. It's one that will have you sitting there chuckling the whole time with occasional belly laughs. It's one of my favorite lesser known classics.
Another reason I like this one is that it's based on a true story... what a great story! I'd love to know sometime how much of it is and isn't fact??? I wasn't able to find any info on the real Henri Rochard.
It's on Netflix instant view until 4/30/09, and I think on TCM sometime this month.
You should buy it now...

Swing Vote ***
So I finally saw 'Swing Vote'.
Kevin Costner's not really at the top of my list. There were some moments in 'Dances With Wolves', but he's just not one of my favorites.
However, he did a good job as a slacker dad with the fate of the world in his hands. He didn't even intend to vote, but it turns out that the outcome of the US presidential election is entirely up to him casting his ballot. That's the story! That's pretty much it...
There are several other good performances in the movie, namely the kid who plays his daughter. But the point of the movie (and it came out in theaters in the fall, before elections) is to impress the importance of voting on all of us. So, be sure to put this one in front of the people who think that their vote isn't important.
All in all, it's just pretty good. Ok for the kids.
If you're a voter, you probably could skip it. But, if you know someone who thinks their vote doesn't count, then just non-chalantly watch it with them!
